Etihad Kabayan Box

I read in Gulfnews that Etihad Airways launched yesterday, December 17, 2012, the Etihad Kabayan Box, a dedicated personal freight service for the Filipinos in the UAE. Charges for the air freight to Manila will be AED 150 for up to 20 kg (regular) and AED 350 for up to 50 kg (jumbo). The service is for personal belongings only and cannot be used for commercial shipments. Items not allowed are dangerous goods, fire-arms (even replicas), gambling devices (including playing cards), lithium batteries other than computer, mobile phone and camera individual accessories and high value contents.

As per Etihad's website:
"And if you were to fly Etihad Airways to Manila, choosing a Kabayan Box enables you to take more baggage in addition to your eligible check-in baggage and also ensures that your additional baggage travels with you. It’s time to say good-bye to sending boxes by sea several months in advance. It’s fast, reliable and offers great value!"

How it works? If you want your Box to fly on the same flight as you are, it must be delivered to Abu Dhabi Cargo Terminal Export Counter 417 at least 8 hours prior to your scheduled flight. To ensure timely delivery, Etihad recommended that the Box be delivered a day in advance of your flight.

Take note: It is NOT mandatory to have a flight booking to opt for a Kabayan Box.

This service would be helpful for those who are flying with significant excess baggage from Abu Dhabi/Etihad as paying for the excess baggage will cost you USD 20 (or around AED 74) per kilogram. Taking a lot more, for a lot less indeed!
